Department of Biology has five Divisions:
- Division of Botany,
- Division of Zoology,
- Division of Animal Physiology,
- Division of Molecular Biology and
- Division of Microbiology.
The doctoral study of Biology comprises diverse lectures, scientific research and elective activities (workshops, courses, seminars, training in visiting laboratories). The study covers a wide range of biology, and the offered content encompasses a spectrum of scientific research from fundamental to applied. PhD students can create a curriculum that best suits their needs. Such a doctoral program enables training not only for continuing an academic career but also for better work in the profession, from ecology and nature conservation to molecular biology and biomedicine.
According to previous experience, around 50% of doctoral students are scientific novices employed at the University or in collaborative institutes, preparing for a scientific or scientific-teaching career during their doctoral studies. Another 40% of doctoral students are experts in biological or related fields employed in the public sector, advancing their work in their home institutions by obtaining a doctorate. Around 10% of doctoral students come from the private sector, and their doctoral education should contribute to improving the company’s activities.
