It will cover the introduction to several key concepts in the field and the integration of statistical foundations into machine learning models, showcasing their application in various biomedical research areas, from research and diagnostic tools to prognostic strategies. The talk will highlight case studies where these approaches have led to significant breakthroughs, emphasizing the synergy between statistical rigor and machine learning innovation in driving forward biomedical discoveries.
Andrija Štajduhar, PhD
Andrija Štajduhar is a researcher and computer scientist who works as an assistant professor at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb at the Department for Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, and Medical Informatics, as well as at the Croatian Institute for Brain Research, where he received after graduating from Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, where he obtained MSc in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2013. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb in 2019, with his thesis Computational histology image analysis of human cerebral cortex cytoarchitectonics. During this time, he spent one year at Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University in Montreal, which was funded by Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives Talent awarded to Andrija in 2017. He collaborated on several national and international research projects and initiatives in various research domains. Andrija’s research interest lies in the application of AI and machine learning across many research fields, including radiology and imaging, neuroscience, psychiatry, public health, social sciences, and others, mainly biomedical. In his free time, Andrija plays tennis, cooks, and occasionally climbs a mountain.
